Get.rugby is a brand developed by sports tech and marketing innovators ROAR with the aim of bringing the rugby world together online. Roar has endeavoured since 2011 to ensure that the sport of rugby has control of its digital identity online. Rugby is one of only 2 major sports that have control of their own name as a top level domain – the other is basketball, which Roar also manage through be.basketball
Roar is led by ex professional footballer Ryan Nelsen and Hamish Miller, a specialist in sports business and marketing. The vision is for .rugby is to be the online location for rugby at every level: nationally, internationally, club, age-group, school, and for players, fans, coaches, referees, sponsors – the whole rugby family.
ROAR has developed a close working relationship with World Rugby, the world governing body for the sport of rugby. World Rugby are committed to partnering with get.rugby in rolling the .rugby domain out across the sport globally. This relationship was a key reason for ROAR being awarded the ownership and guardianship of the domain over large Wall Street funded investment companies. “We believed in what we were doing for the betterment of the sport,” said Miller. “Unlike others we wanted to make sure the rightful stakeholders got the rightful names.”
It was important to us that .rugby always follow these basic principals:
- Accessible to all levels within the sport
- Promote a sense of community within its users
- Do what we can to keep squatters and spammers out
- Create a digital space for all rugby-related activity online
More than just selling domains, ROAR and get.rugby are on a mission to accelerate the promotion of rugby entities, brands and individuals in a safe, secure and controlled environment. Get.rugby provides advice on digital and marketing strategies for rugby organisations of all sizes helping them grow themselves as well as the sport globally. Simply by using a .rugby domain you are immediately doing a better job at promoting what you do.
